Description

My entry into the Dark Shadows Contest. I designed this in the Japanese Ukiyo-e woodcut style (one of my favorite mediums). The kanji in the red cartouche means "Vampire Ancestor" (I hope), the title of the piece.

Hi Jake, I saw your post on the Dark Shadows page and thought I'd pop over and took a look.

Overall, this is a very nice piece. Good proportions, good execution, and a really good likeness to Depp.

Don't feel discouraged if you don't receive a lot of views or favorites. There's something like 7 million members registered here. It is really difficult to get your work noticed in the sea of work.

There are some things you can do to increase those numbers. First, be active. I came here because I saw your comment in a public space. That's a good start :) I also recommend that you comment on other people's work. Don't just fave, but actually engage with other artists by getting to know them and letting them get to know you. Give them feedback on their work. You like a piece of theirs? Tell them why. Respond to journals. Write journals. Comment in the forums.

And the best way to become more active is by joining groups that cater to your interests. You are bound to find some kindred souls there, and when you submit your artwork to those groups, you will greatly increase the visits to your page.

Keep up the good work and just try to network a bit more. I know it seems a bit odd, this is not supposed to be a popularity contest, but it seems to be a side effect of all social networking sites. If you don't care about faves or watches and just want feedback on your work, then maybe add that in your artist's comments. Ask specifically for feedback on the whole piece, or maybe just one area of it. People will respond, you just have to start the conversation. :D
